A high-ranking delegation from the Chinese Broadcasting Authority of Beijing, headed by its General Manager Yang Shuo, visited Athens
A high-ranking delegation from the Chinese Broadcasting Authority of Beijing, headed by its General Manager Yang Shuo, as well as Managing Directors of the largest Chinese audiovisual production companies had a meeting, on 9 May 2018, with Minister for Digital Policy, Telecommunications and Media, Mr Nikos Pappas, Secretary General for Media and Communication, Mr Lefteris Kretsos and President of EKOME (National Center for Audiovisual Media & Communication), Mr Panos Kouanis at the premises of the ministry.
During the meeting, Mr Kretsos and Mr Kouanis briefed the Chinese delegation on the new Greek institutional framework aiming to attract foreign audiovisual productions while underlining the positive prospects opened up in this field as regards cooperation with China.
At a private meeting between Mr Pappas and Mr Yang Shuo, the Greek Minister referred to the importance of the visit of some of China's best production companies to Greece.
Mr Pappas also highlighted the excellent climate in our bilateral relations and the prospect of Greece in becoming a "bridge" of communication and a "window" for China's contact and exchanges with the West, a prospect that he wholeheartedly supports. During the meeting of Secretary General for Media and Communication, Mr Kretsos with Mr Yang Shuo, the Chinese official referred to the Authority’s preparedness to cooperate closely with Greece in the field of film and television in the form of investments, productions and co-productions and to the fact that large Chinese companies - like Youku, Kaixin Mahua, "Wenhua Zhongguo / Cultural China"- have tangible partnership projects with Greece. Mr Kretsos welcomed the progress made so far in bilateral exchanges and cooperation, noting Greece’s advantages, (natural beauty, historical and cultural resources, provision of high quality services etc.) for audiovisual productions, such as films, TV series, documentaries and animation.
