High level meeting between Greece and China (May 23, 2018)
A high-level meeting between Greece and China was held on May 23, 2018 at the Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs. Head of the Greek delegation was the Deputy Minister of Research and Innovation, Kostas Fotakis and of the Chinese delegation the Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, Li Meng.
During the meeting, Greece and China signed the 2018-2020 Action Plan, aiming at the scientific and technological cooperation of the two countries.
At the ministerial level, it was agreed that science, technology and innovation are a guide for the sustainable development and cooperation of the two countries, as well as for the further deepening of their already developed cooperative strategy, which is reinforced by the Beijing initiative «One Belt - One Road».
During the meeting, issues related to the current developments in the field of research and technology were discussed and the great support of the two countries' scientific, research and business community in the 2018’s Proclamation for Bilateral and Multilateral Cooperation of Greece- China was highlighted. Also, the prospect of a new bilateral proclamation for 2019-2020 to promote partnerships between academic and research institutes, technology parks, innovation incubators and industrial clusters was discussed.
In his statements, the Deputy Minister referred to the longstanding and remarkable cooperation between the two countries in the field of Research and Technology. He also underlined the importance of this meeting for the broadening of the exchange of know-how with China in high priority areas, such as research and development, artificial intelligence, forecasting and dealing with natural disasters etc. "China and Greece have created cultures that were crucial to the evolution of Asia and Europe, and today's meeting is a unique opportunity to secure the future of our past," said Mr Fotakis.
