The Chinese martial art of Shaolin monks in Athens
The Shaolin monks from China are visiting our country to present their martial art in four scheduled performances entitled “Shaolin: The Legend”.
In these performances, which have been included in the program of the Greece-China Year of Cultural Exchanges and Cooperation of Creative Industries, the actors are the real Shaolin monks who participated in the opening ceremony of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
The “Shaolin: The Legend” performance, an ode to the strength of the human soul, will impress the fans of martial arts, especially those of kung fu, as it revives the ambience of famous Chinese films like “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”, “Hero” and “House of Flying Daggers”.
The Buddhist monk Bodhidarma, who arrived to China from India, is considered the founder of Shaolins’ martial art. He established a system of physical and spiritual discipline, which later transformed into the various types of martial arts that prevail in the East.
The performances will take place in the indoor stadium of Palaion Faliron (Taekwondo), on Saturday 31 March at 16.00 and 20.30, and on Sunday 1 April at 12.30 and 17.30.
