A theatrical dialogue between Greece and China

A co-operation between the Center for Classical Drama and Performance of the Panteion University in Athens and the Beijing Central Academy of Drama

A "theatrical dialogue between Greece and China" took place on Beijing from 20 to 28 April, 2017. This “dialogue” was the fruit of an educational and theatrical co-operation between the Center for Classical Drama and Performance (KEDRA) of the Panteion University (Athens, Greece) and the Beijing Central Academy of Drama, aiming to promote the ancient Greek drama in China through a "masterclass" - that draws its theme from the Theban cycle of the tragedy - and a series of introductory courses, among others, in ancient Greek drama and in individual theatrical techniques, such the mask creation.

The Greek team consisted of the Deputy President of KEDRA and artistic director of the programme "Ancient Drama Today", Mr Yangos Andreadis, Emeritus Professor Ms Kalliopi Rigopoulou - who specializes in the art of myth and psychoanalysis - and director and actor Mr Yannis Trantas.

This Greek-Chinese theatrical collaboration is the first step towards a long-term partnership between the two educational institutions, aiming to promote, in an active and creative manner, the dialogue between two major cultures and theatrel traditions.

Similar educational co-operation is expected to take place in Greece during the summer of 2017, with the presence of a three-member team of Chinese experts, under the former rector of the Beijing Central Academy of Drama and top Chinese expert on the ancient Greek drama, Mr Luo Jinlin.
